Calling all Craft Beer Geeks!
What better way to spend Father’s Day weekend than cruising Vail with dad, the sun shining on your shoulders and a cold one in your hand? Represented at the Craft Beer Classic this year will be breweries from all over Colorado, a handful of West Coast brands, and a few international outliers. Our very own Vail Brewing Company, Crazy Mountain Brewery (Edwards), and Bonfire Brewing (Eagle) will lead the charge of the artisanal crafting of our favorite grain beverage at the Classic Kickoff Celebration that happens on June 16th at 6pm. A high altitude event, the kickoff happens at Eagle’s Nest at the top of the mountain and is a veritable beer and barbecue tasting extravaganza. Presented by the Colorado Brewers’ Guild, this opening event features ‘locals only’ and offers a chance for beer connoisseurs to mingle and taste among the creators of IPAs, lagers, stouts, and everything in between!
For the more serious and discriminating beer drinker, there is, of course, the series of seminars where you can bone up on your lager lore, your pilsner-ology, your ale erudition, your IPA intelligence…should we go on? No, really. There are pop-up seminars on barrel aging, grapes versus grains, and (our favorite) meeting and learning from the owners, founders, and presidents of local brewing companies from the state of Colorado. Did we mention that there is also beer drinking? Wheat beer wisdom, stout science, porter principles…
Don’t miss Barrels of Bliss at White Bison on Saturday the 17th, where participants will lunch together and explore barrel-aged divinities of oak, vanilla, and caramel under the tutelage of the folks from Great Divide Brewing Company out of Denver. Come sample some of the Great Divide’s unique barrel-aged concoctions, like their Jameson Collaboration, and experience true innovation!
And what would a Vail event be without a little outdoor adventure? Whether your preference is for yoga under a bluebird sky, mountain biking up Vail Mountain, or fly fishing in the Eagle River (all of which somehow involve food and beer!) you’ll find a way to whet your whistle and move your body at elevation. There are outdoor yoga classes led by yogis ogi Brooke Larson will lead the unique “beer yoga” (which might be a Craft Classic original) at Ford Park on Sunday.
Finally, dad could not be happier than he will be enjoying the Father’s Day “Beerunch” on Sunday at 10am in the Swiss Chalet Sonnenalp. Have you ever had a beermosa? How about Tito’s Bloody Marys? Oh, and delicious food, of course. We are told this event is “pajamas optional.”
There’s really nothing like summer in Vail, and the Craft Beer Classic is an awesome way to partake in the beauty and fun of this special time in the Valley. We hope you’ll meet us for some of these festivities, especially the Toast of Vail on Saturday evening…it’s steps from our door in the Solaris Plaza and will certainly spill across the cobbles into the rest of the village. This event rolls right into the free concert with Gipsy Moon and Head for the Hills, because what’s a beer festival without a little bluegrass and an adult-sized beer?
Don’t forget to stop by La Tour Restaurant sometime during your beer-celebrating weekend. We’ve got lots of beer anda rich menu of other delicacies, too. Hope to see you soon!
