It’s Time for the GoPro Mountain Games Here in Vail!
It’s hard to believe it’s been 16 years since the inaugural GoPro Mountain Games here in Vail, and they just keep getting better. For four days each June, Vail becomes an even greater magnet for outdoor adventure athletes from all over the world. They come to compete in 9 different sports and 25 disciplines ranging from extreme kayaking to World Cup Climbing. But it’s not just about the sports; the folks at the Vail Valley Foundation, which sponsors the event, make sure there is something for everyone.
Over the years, events and activities have been added that round out the experience and satisfy every appetite, whether it be culinary or cultural. This year the Games will include a mountain photography competition and an adventure film school. Film connoisseurs will enjoy the film festival, and of course, music lovers will enjoy the headlining bands this year. Our personal favorite is Nahko and Medicine for the People. This band played two years ago as part of Vail’s Hot Summer Nights concert series, and did they rock the house! With their message of consciousness and unity, Nahko and Medicine for the People exude positivity and good vibes that make it impossible not to move your body! They are in good company, too, with other bands like Moon Taxi and Bonfire Dub. We’re pretty excited, as well, to welcome Trevor Hall, whose music is at once soulful and playful, with roots that extend deep into this beautiful planet.
So put on your sunscreen and pack up the fam, or just cruise on down with a pal.
The GoPro Games is a mountain people pleaser, and the lineup this year is epic! Between the vast range of adventure sports, including the TUDOR Raft Cross on Friday and the Volvo Road Bike Time Trial on Sunday to name only two, and the many kid-friendly activities, every member of the family will be stoked. And don’t forget to register for a yoga class or two. This is a seriously fun long weekend!
And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the “mountain lifestyle” parties that abound during this time; basically just a time to get your party on in the twilight of these adventure, culture, and music-filled days. This year, these include various “after-parties” and even a flashlight disco! On Friday and Saturday in Solaris, the Olukai Happy Hour starts at 3:30 and yes, the beer is free…until it runs out, that is. But don’t worry, you can wander on over to La Tour and keep the good times rolling. Our Happy Hour, which runs from 3- 5pm, offers great deals on delicious food, $3.50 craft beers, and $6 select wines. That flows right into dinner, where you know you’re in for a French culinary treat, whatever you choose from our fabulous menu. Hope to see you here!
