Date Night Anyone?
There are a few different ways date night could go around the Bravo! Vail Music Festival this summer. You could get gussied up and get seats under the arching roof of the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater for, say, the New York Philharmonic (ever listened to Brahms and Berlioz while taking in fresh mountain air at 8,000 feet?) or London’s Academy of St. Martin in the Field (think city string concertos in an alpine environment) and follow it up with a sophisticated French meal in the charming La Tour dining room.
Then again, you could lay out a blanket on the lawn above the amphitheatre and enjoy a little Tchaikovsky or Stravinsky (the Philadelphia Orchestra might be your pick) with your toes in the grass, and follow it up with a sampling of craft beers and small plates under a heat lamp on the La Tour patio.
Or maybe it’s chamber music that blows your hair back; how about the Emerson String Quartet or the very special Four Pianists/Eight Hands arrangements played by Anne-Marie McDermott, Anton Nel, Jenny Chen, and Chelsea Wang? This evening will begin at the Donovan Pavilion.
Or perhaps you’re feeling like getting an early start on your time together; why waste daylight, right? You can take advantage of the free chamber concert series, which is every Thursday in July at 1 pm at the Vail Interfaith Chapel. Enjoy music from the Zora String Quartet or, say, Ensemble Connect playing a Mozart Clarinet Quintet. Just making these suggestions we are again struck by the good fortune we have to be situated here in the Vail Valley, where we can enjoy the pristine landscape of the High Rockies and let the culture come to us. May we never forget the many blessings of living in, or even just being able to visit, this amazing place.
It’s year 30 for the Bravo! Vail Music Festival, so come enjoy a true Vail tradition. Wherever your love of fine music takes you this summer, whether to the front row of the amphitheater or the grassy slope of the lawn above it, your love of fine food and drink just may land you at our door afterward (or maybe even before), so we at La Tour look forward to seeing you soon!
